Tilray, a Nasdaq-listed producer of medical marijuana, has successfully delivered cannabis oil to Ireland for the first time.
The announcement comes after health minister Simon Harris signed legislation to allow for the operation of the medical cannabis access programme on a pilot basis for five years.
The programme will enable medical consultants to prescribe cannabis-based treatments to patients who suffer from medical conditions where standard therapies have failed, including multiple sclerosis, nausea associated with chemotherapy, and severe epilepsy.
In March it was confirmed that a medicinal marijuana product for Irish import had been identified, with government sources stating that the legislation for operation of the scheme would be signed off before the summer.
